How are "books" set up for a company permanently expunged (deleted) from Gnucash.

If you open separate accounts for a number of unrelated companies (say, companies A,B, and C) how can the "book" of accounts for one, (say Company B) be permanently deleted so that when Gnucash is opened from the gnome menu, it longer shows the Company B books. At present, deleting the "book for company B from the records causes Gnucash to go into a data recovery mode from which exiting seems to be impossible.
