Setting up OFXDirectConnect in GnuCash 2 (under construction)

my first attempt at a new wiki page.

When it has made some progress, I'll link to it from the FAQ--Dbreiser 22:18, 21 September 2006 (EDT)

:Looks great. Thanks for writing this up. If you see a place where that page should be linked from the front page, just notify me here and I'll insert the link to the (protected) front page. --Cstim 04:43, 22 September 2006 (EDT)

::I added the OFX Direct Connect Bank Settings page with the info on the two credit cards I have set up.  I also have a screenshot, but uploading is disabled.  Everyone should add their bank to the list.  Also, I think both of these pages should be linked from the main page. :::The instructions should be linked from the main page and I've just added this here (although a link in the FAQ is probably more important). But regarding the bank settings: Are you sure there aren't any copyright issues when these settings are published here? --Cstim 05:39, 14 November 2006 (EST)

::::IANAL, but lists of facts are not copyrightable, and neither are facts.  From "An important limitation on the scope of copyright protection is the idea/expression dychotomy: While copyright law protects the expression of an idea, it does not protect the idea itself." ... " Facts are considered synonymous to "ideas" or "discoveries" under this law and are not copyrightable. By extension, a compilation of uncopyrightable facts is also uncopyrightable. However, section § 103 of the Copyright Act allows for the protection of "compilations," provided there is an "creative" or "original" act involved in such a compilation, such as in the selection (deciding which things to include or exclude), and arrangement (how they are shown and in what order). The protection is limited only to the selection and arrangement, not to the facts themselves, which may be freely copied.  The Supreme Court decision in Feist v. Rural further made clear the requirements that a compilation be original in its composition, in denying protection to telephone "white pages". The Feist court rejected what was known as the "sweat of the brow" doctrine, in ruling that no matter how much work was necessary to create a compilation, a non-selective collection of facts ordered in a non-creative way is not subject to copyright protection."  There is almost no way lists of public URLs can be copyrighted. ::Oh yeah, the FAQ entry for discover card should probably be updated to mention aqbanking and the settings I added to the new page Wuzzeb 03:15, 14 November 2006 (EST)

:::You can edit the FAQ directly. --Cstim 05:39, 14 November 2006 (EST)
