P.S. Can you move the page abstract—together with the categories from the bottom of the page—before the first

Flywire, why did you replace the numbered-list-item tags (#) in Custom_Reports with hard-coded numbers? Markdown provides those so that renumbering is automatic if someone adds or inserts a new list item. John Ralls (talk) 00:39, 15 January 2023 (UTC)

Yes. Care to share? It didn't support using "1." for each numbered item.
Nor does your edit. John Ralls (talk) 03:57, 22 January 2023 (UTC)
Instead of talking riddles let's get to the point. I've made lots of changes so I didn't initially know what you were referring to. You mentioned markdown, https://daringfireball.net/projects/markdown/syntax#list uses "1." for a numbered list. When I chanced across another wiki page using "#" I understood your comment. Even with a "#" the third point is not numbered (which I suspect you know). I can't see any worthwhile changes but I'm receptive to better ideas.
While Gruber (of Daring Fireball) invented markdown, it's become a generic term for plain text markup that things like wikis can parse to turn into html. There are several flavors now, MediaWiki's is the one to use here. I strongly encourage you to learn it before making any more edits. You haven't made very many edits, but to jog your memory this is the one I'm complaining about. John Ralls (talk) 04:35, 23 January 2023 (UTC)

Flywire, I rolled back your edit from today because it's wrong. There are no anchors on Configuration_Locations called GNC_USERCONFIG_DIR or GNC_USERDATA_DIR. There are anchors called USER_CONFIG_DIR and Configuration_Locations#USER_DATA_DIR, but they describe the parent directories of GNC_CONFIG_DIR and GNC_DATA_DIR respectively. The report files should go in the latter as the page indicated before your edit. Notice that clicking on the correct anchor name links to the section of the page but the incorrect ones link to the top of the page. John Ralls (talk) 04:04, 19 November 2025 (UTC)

Thank you for your feedback. Since this documentation applies from GnuCash Version 5.0 do you have any objections to me removing DOT_GNUCASH_DIR ? flywire (talk) 20:48, 19 November 2025 (UTC)
Yes. You are not correct that the wiki is only for the current release. The Tutorial and Concepts Guide and the Manual are versioned and if they were well maintained then could reasonably expected to apply only to the version on the title page. Unfortunately they're not well maintained, especially the translations besides German and Portuguese, so it's hard to tell what version any particular part applies to. While I'd prefer a better solution than pointing users of older versions at the wiki page's history, you're right that having a reference to DOT_GNUCASH_DIR on the current version of the page doesn't make sense.
